The Best Time to Visit Central Kalahari
The best time to visit Central Kalahari Game Reserve is during the wet months from December to March, when animals gather in the Deception Valley area. Roads do get very muddy at this time of the year. During drier months from April to October, the roads tend to be in better condition. This is true later in the season, when animals gather near all the nearby water sources.
January to April
January through April bring lush landscapes that are excellent for birdwatching and for newborn wildlife. However, sightings can be hard due to dense vegetation and scattered water sources, and occasional rains can affect overall road conditions.
April to August
April and May are great for viewing wildlife with few crowds, with good road conditions, and with animals near the waterholes. May and August seem to be cool seasons.
August to October
August to October is a peak wildlife season, as dry conditions concentrate mainly on animals around the waterholes. It offers excellent sightings, but it can be dusty, hot, and more crowded with higher lodge rates.
November to March-Wet Season
The pans in Deception Valley are full, and animals gather to drink water. It is the best time for bird watching as migrants are present. Roads remain very muddy and sometimes impassable.
